What is win rate?

Definition

Win rate is the percentage of trades that close in profit over a given period.

Win rate on its own says little. A trader who wins nine trades in ten can still lose money if the one loss is large enough. A trader who wins four in ten can come out ahead if winners are three times the size of losers.

Any win rate describes one person over one period. It is not a promise about the future and it is not transferable. Be cautious of anyone advertising a win rate as a reason to buy their product.

Track it alongside profit factor and whether each trade followed the plan.
